1. What is one economic development problem related to population characteristics of Nigeria that may be helped with U.S. aid?

One of the economic development problems that may be helped with U.S. aid is infant Mortality. In Nigeria 84/1000 life births while in the U.S. it is 7.0

2. Explain what caused this economic development problem.

Infant Mortality rate is so high in Nigeria because of bad health care. There are not enough doctors or any hospitals in Nigeria.

3. What are the consequences of this problem? (How does this problem hurt economic development in Nigeria?)

Because there are no health care or bad ones the mother who is having the baby doesn’t know how to take care during pregnancy. So most babys die at a young age. Since most babys die people are getting more pregnencys and trying to get a biger family because lots of the kids will die.

The largely subsistence agricultural sector has failed to keep up with rapid population growth and Nigeria, once a large net exporter of food, now must import food.

2. Explain what caused this economic development problem.

The causes are that there isn’t enough people growing food and working.

3. What are the consequences of this problem? (How does this problem hurt economic development in Nigeria?)

The consequences are that there might not be enough food for everyone and they will have to start importing foods.

There are too many low quality roads. The U.S. could give Nigeria money to hire road workers to repair roads.

Nigeria has poor road maintenance.

Much of Nigeria’s road system is barely usable. Most Nigerians have to walk to work, which is much slower.
