Financial Aid and Student Employment
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) provides professional opportunities to students who are committed to becoming outstanding educators. C&I offers degree programs at the undergraduate level in Early Childhood, Elementary, and Middle School Education as well as Bilingual certification. In addition, the department provides pedagogical training for Secondary School majors receiving degrees from other departments throughout the University. If you are interested in becoming a teacher, please contact the appropriate person based upon your certification level desired and subject of interest. Please visit the webpage for Teacher Certification Advisors.
At the graduate level, the department offers master's degrees in Reading, Curriculum and Instruction, and Instructional Technology and Design. A Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree with a Curriculum and Instruction emphasis is also offered. The Alternative Route to Secondary Teacher Certification is a non-degree program at the graduate level but is not offered in 2008.
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction does not offer any degree or certification program which is solely Internet-based. However, several online courses are offered during each semester (see Courses & Syllabi).
As with the other departments within the College of Education, the Department of Curriculum and Instruction promotes and follows "Realizing the Democratic Ideal", the conceptual framework for all teacher education programs at Illinois State University.
