The purpose of this study was to investigate an instructional design model for training traditional prepress adult craft workers in the printing and publishing industry impacted by computer-integrated equipment. Problems for this study were the lack of instructional design models and training strategies taking into account the older prepress workers skills, their individual characteristics, the “andragogy” theory of assisting adults to retrain and transfer their previous knowledge and skills to a new situation. The objectives were to identify the skills required of traditional adult craft workers in the prepress manufacturing area in the printing industry and what traditional skills would transfer to computer-integrated equipment. Skills and knowledge were identified that will transfer from the traditional methods to computer-integrated equipment. The investigation lead to the identification of training strategies in this context. After identifying the training strategies a description and illustration of those training strategies were developed to assist in the application of transfer of skills in this training context.
