C&I 599 and 599.01: DISSERTATION RESEARCH
There is no syllabus for this course. (Instructor varies)
C&I 599 Section 001, Ref. No. 723151 (except for extension students)
Procedure for 599: Every semester the student must contact the doctoral program coordinator to report progress on their dissertation and obtain approval to register; the coordinator notifies the secretary who does required override; the secretary notifies the student that registration now possible; and finally the student registers for the course. Proposal Approval Form must be completed once while in the program. Students do not have to register for summer unless they are going to defend during that semester. As long as that student registers for fall, they will be able to use university research facilities such as Milner Library during the summer. Extension (off campus) students cannot register themselves, but are registered at the request of the secretary after permission is given from the program coordinator.
Procedure and Information for students who have already taken 15 hours of C&I 599: Students in this situation continue to register for 1 hour of C&I 599 or 599.01 in future semesters
until they defend their dissertation. Students wishing to keep their student health insurance, international students and/or graduate assistants must take C&I 599 and must also pay their health insurance premium 15 days before the semester starts. International students and/or graduate assistants also must file the appropriate forms to apply for reduced academic workload in order to keep their assistantship and to keep their VISA valid if applicable.
Procedure for 599.01: If a student has already taken 15 hours of C&I 599, has not yet defended their dissertation, and does not need health insurance through the university, this student should take one hour every semester of C&I 599.01 instead of C&I 599, thus incurring only tuition costs and no fees. This must also have the prior approval by the coordinator, who notifies the secretary, who then initiates the registration. Students themselves cannot register for C&I 599.01. For the initial semester, they are registered at the request of the secretary, and for subsequent semesters they are automatically registered for one hour every semester until they defend their dissertation. This is an audit course so health insurance through the university is not available. International and/or graduate assistants may not take C&I 599.01.
