For more specific information about the Bilingual Teacher Education Program, view the Undergraduate Catalog
The Bilingual-Bicultural Education Program at Illinois State University is offered to students interested in using the Spanish language and culture as a teaching tool. It is offered by the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in cooperation with the Departments of Languages, Literatures & Cultures; English; Sociology & Anthropology; and History.
This program to prepare individuals to teach in elementary school (K-8) is founded on the Guidelines for Basic Elementary Education Programs of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and on INTASC principles. The program also reflects the state’s position on the purpose of schooling: the transmission of knowledge and culture through which children learn in areas necessary to their continuing development.
New Grant! Bilingual Paraprofessionals in Training
As with the other departments within the College of Education, the Department of Curriculum and Instruction promotes and follows "Realizing the Democratic Ideal", the conceptual framework for all teacher education programs at Illinois State University.
