The Department of Curriculum and Instruction, in response to the need to prepare teachers for positions in diverse settings, offers an optional, off campus multicultural early field experience program. The ISU Urban Field Experience Program, is offered summers and is open to education and non-education majors.
The focus of the Illinois State program is that classroom experiences, while essential prior to student teaching, need to be supplemented with comparable, structured, community experiences. The ISU Urban Field Experience program was developed to provide a program emphasizing urban, multicultural, community based experiences prior to student teaching or internships.
