The Induction and Mentoring Steering Committee (IMSC) was formed in May 2006. The mission of the committee is to provide advisory leadership as to how Illinois State University can continue to support its graduates in the early years of teaching and assist schools that work and partner with Illinois State University in their support of all beginning teachers. A primary goal of the committee is to promote and develop a comprehensive scheme for supporting Illinois State graduates and all beginning teachers in schools that work and partner with Illinois State.
Since its inception, the IMSC has been quite active. For example, a major conceptual framework white paper has been authored regarding ideas about induction and mentoring for the college for others to view (see below). This major white paper was presented at state and national professional education conferences (2008 and 2009). In 2007, the Fall Conference for Induction and Mentoring was held with over sixty P-20 stakeholders from Illinois attending the conference. The result of this conference was presented as a major evaluation white paper at a national conference in 2009. The IMSC has framed an operational action plan for induction and mentoring initiatives as we move forward to provide services in support of our graduates as beginning teachers and the schools who partner and work with us at Illinois State University. Below, you will find six key documents that highlight those efforts. Moreover, in September, 2008, the IMSC began its outreach efforts by meeting with the Normal School District Unit 5 Beginning Teacher Induction Steering Committee. As well, similar outreach efforts are being planned to meet with other Illinois school district officials that partner with Illinois State.
The committee looks forward to working collaboratively with all interested parties across the Illinois State campus, our partner schools and other schools who work with us in Illinois.

As a result of the 2007 Fall Conference, the steering committee analyzed the data collected from the conference participants to produce a final comprehensive draft of the document:
Further refinements of the above document can be found next:
On May 6, 2008, the steering committee met with Dean Curtis and is currently working on producing a product for a final action plan for next steps for induction and mentoring initiatives at ISU.
One May 12, 2008, the Summary Report of Participant Responses for the 2007 Fall Conference for Induction and Mentoring (pdf) was released to Dean Curtis and the IMSC.
On September 30, 2008, Dean Curtis met with the IMSC and suggested a modified sub-committee structure. One sub-committee, led by Ken Jerich, will emphasis the university-based teacher education strand for induction and mentoring outreach activities. The other sub-committee, led by JoNancy Warren, will emphasis the PreK-12 school-based strand for induction and mentoring outreach activities. Robert Fisher will serve a conveyor for the two sub-committees.
