Using FREE Online Tools to Make Group Projects More Effective
Come to this hands-on workshop and spend some time playing with free online tools that will increase the effectiveness, equalize student effort, and chronicle the outcomes of the collaborative projects in your courses.
ETIP is sponsored by the Teacher Education Center in the College of Education. Created to supplement the Instructional Technology Passport System, ETIP seeks to provide pre-service teachers with opportunities to learn integration strategies in their courses and clinical experiences by assisting Teacher Education faculty across the ISU campus. To this end, ETIP Fellows mentor faculty to help them determine the most appropriate technology and the best application of technology in their courses.

ETIP Director
Dr. Cheri Toledo, Assistant Professor in C&I, is the Coordinator of the Instructional Technology and Design Master's Program. She earned her B.A. in Physical Education from California Western University, M.A. in Physical Education Administration from Long Beach State , M.A. in Marriage and Family Ministries from Biola University, M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific University, and her Ed.D. in Technology and Learning from United States International University. Dr. Toledo’s major research areas are distance education and educational technology integration. She has been in education for over twenty years as a teacher, coach, and academic counselor.
ETIP Fellow
Rena Shifflet is the ETIP technology integration specialist. After serving twenty-five years as an elementary teacher, Rena Shifflet became the Technology Coordinator for a K-12 district in central Illinois. Although she is responsible for maintaining the network, her primary focus is assisting teachers with technology integration. Rena has served as a consultant for IBM and is pursuing a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction.
During the Fall and Spring of the 2005-2006 school years, the ETIP team developed a set of technology-rich activity resources to use in providing learning opportunities and mentoring for faculty participants. ETIP fellows assist faculty to choose activities to integrate into their classes. Spring 2006 will be the pilot semester for the integration of ETIP activities into C&I courses.
ETIP Participants
Current C&I faculty were surveyed to help determine their knowledge, skills, and comfort with the use and integration of technology into their teaching. Nine participants were chosen to pilot the ETIP program. These faculty will be showcasing their technology integration course activities in Spring 2006.
Tech Fridays
ETIP will offer monthly technology workshops for faculty. Topics will cover the six components of the ETIP Program (blogs, collaborative projects, digital stories, online tools, virtual field trips, and WebQuests) in addition to the ETIP Participant Showcase, Taking Advantage of the Smart Classroom, Introducing Interact Virtual Classroom (IVC) online course delivery system, and Optimizing Handhelds for Personal Productivity.
Workshops and Mentoring
ETIP Fellows will continue mentoring ETIP faculty. Workshops on a variety of topics will be offered to Teacher Educators and other faculty across campus. ETIP is working in conjunction with CTLT to provide workshops and mentoring for faculty who will be implementing the new elements of ITPS.
Undergraduate ETIP Co-Mentors
Beginning Spring 2007, undergraduate pre-service teachers will assist with ETIP Friday workshops. In addition, these specially chosen individuals will serve as mentors to faculty.
