Several classrooms in DeGarmo Hall are equipped with a Dell computer and a ViewSonic switch that makes toggling between displaying the VCR, computer, document camera and TV tuner (not operational) easy. Because switching is done through hardware, it is not necessary to have the computer turned on to view videotapes or images from the document camera. The computer needs to be turned on when images are to be displayed from the computer.
Follow these steps to use the ViewSonic Switch (the small box on top of the computer):
- Make sure the power to the ViewSonic switch is turned on. This can be done by pressing the power button on either the switch itself or the ViewSonic remote control. (The pilot light on the ViewSonic switch should now be illuminated.)
- Turn on the input source you wish to display (i.e., start playing a tape on the VCR, press the power button on the computer, or switch on the document camera).
- Slowly and repeatedly tap the input button on either the ViewSonic switch or the ViewSonic remote control until you see the desired input source displayed on the monitor. If it is necessary to adjust the volume, there are volume up and down buttons on both the ViewSonic switch and the ViewSonic remote control. (If you do not see anything displayed on the monitor screen, make sure the power button on the monitor is turned on.)
- When done using the system, simply turn off the input source you were viewing (i.e., stop playing the tape on the VCR, log off of the computer and shut it down, or power off the document camera). Then, turn off the ViewSonic switch with the power button on either the switch itself or the ViewSonic remote control.
