Announcement of the Spring 2010 Illinois NBPTS Candidate Fee Subsidy

April 1, 2010 - May 15, 2010

The Illinois State Board of Education is pleased to announce that funding is available for the Illinois NBPTS Candidate Fee Subsidy of $2,000 for 500 candidates.  The number of candidates may increase if additional funding becomes available.

 

It is anticipated that there will be more candidate applications than available funding.  The selection process will adhere to the criteria and priorities outlined in the application and only applications from those teachers who meet eligibility criteria and submit complete and accurate applications by May 15, 2010 will be processed and reviewed for the application priorities.  Only those approved candidates who pay the $500 by May 30, 2010 will receive the Illinois NBPTS Candidate Fee Subsidy.

 

 

                                           Selection Criteria    

 

Criteria for Eligible Illinois Teachers and Counselors

Criteria for Priority Approval for Selection

·         Hold a current Illinois Initial or Standard-level teaching or a Type 73 (counselors) certificate.

·         Have completed teaching three years.

·         Teach in an Illinois public school.

·         Be a U. S. Citizen or completed paperwork.

·         Submitted a complete and accurate application for the Illinois NBPTS Candidate Fee Subsidy

·         Applied to NBPTS and paid the $65 online fee.

In the event that there are more candidates than funding for the Illinois NBPTS Candidate Fee Subsidy, priority will be given on a first come, first serve basis to teachers who meet the following criteria:

 

·         Completed the NBPTS Take One! process.

·         Teach in a school on the Academic Early Warning List (AEW).

·         Teach in a school on the Academic Watch List (AW).

·         Teach in a school with 50% or more students who receive free or reduced price lunches.

 

 

Step-by-Step Procedures Beginning April 1, 2010

What To Do Beginning April 1, 2010

Register at NBPTS:  Pay only the $65. (DO NOT pay the non-refundable, initial $500 fee until Step 4.

Fax the paper ISBE Application beginning April 1 and no later than May 15, 2010.  The application form and instructions will be posted on the website on April 1, 2010.

Wait. After you fax or mail the ISBE application, wait to see your name on the Approved List on the NBRC at ISU website posted  beginning April 5, 2010. Do NOT pay the non-refundable, initial $500 fee until Step 4.

Once you see your name on the NBRC at ISU website, immediately pay the non-refundable $500 online at NBPTS by May 30, 2010. Only candidates who are on the Approved List at NBRC at ISU website and pay the $500 by May 30, 2010 will receive the Illinois NBPTS Candidate Fee Subsidy.
