NBCTs Professional Development Strategies and Protocol for NBCTs in Illinois

Strategies and Resources for NBCTs to Mentor in Illinois Schools

The purpose of these resources and mentoring protocol is to support NBCTs to mentor
new and experienced teachers in Illinois schools one-on-one or in small groups of one to three teachers about teaching and learning.  Many schools and districts may have systems and procedures for NBCTs to mentor. These resources and mentoring protocol are not meant to supplant those systems but rather to add to existing programs or to support NBCTs who do not have structured mentoring guidelines and would like to begin to mentor teachers. The protocol outlined here is NOT to be considered the only way to mentor teachers.  However, NBCTs will be able to facilitate the procedures since the structure of the protocol is based on the NBPTS “Architecture of Teaching” and the NBPTS Five Core Propositions.
