Admission Criteria
 
   

The Executive Committee shall determine the most appropriate manner by which to offer and receive applications for Chapter membership. The following minimum requirements shall apply.

Section 2.0 Chapter Membership
Membership in Mu chapter is open to undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty members, and other professional educators without regard to race, age, color, religion, gender, or disability, dependent upon fulfillment of the following qualifications:

2.10 Qualifications for Undergraduate Students:
  2.11 Have at least first-term sophomore standing (30 semester hours)
  2.12 Hold a GPA of 3.25 out of 4.0 (or its equivalent)
  2.13 Have at least 12 semester hours (or its equivalent) in education courses programmed, in progress, or completed
  2.14 Exemplify worthy educational ideals
  2.15 Express an intention of continuing in the field of education
  2.16 Give evidence of leadership abilities
     
2.20 Qualifications for Graduate students:
  2.21 Regular graduate admission status in a degree program within the College of Education
  2.22 At least 12 semester hours (or the equivalent) of professional education courses completed or in progress for graduate credit
  2.23 A grade point average not less than a 3.50 out of 4.0 based upon the total previous collegiate record of the student for graduate courses
  2.24 Exemplify worthy educational ideals
  2.25 Express an intention of continuing in the field of education
  2.26 Give evidence of leadership abilities
     
2.30 Qualifications for Faculty Members:
  2.31 Be a faculty member of Illinois State University
  2.32 Give evidence of support for the Chapter and its programs
  2.33 The number of faculty initiated at any one induction ceremony shall not exceed the number of other initiates.
     
2.40 Qualifications for Professional Educators
    Persons employed as teachers or administrators in local schools may be invited to membership upon the recommendation of the Membership Committee and the approval of the Executive Committee.

What is not shown in the bylaws is how we actually identify candidates who meet our criteria. This is done by sending our admission criteria to the Office of the University Registrar and requesting that the academic records of all ISU students be scanned, and that those people who meet our admission criteria be listed and sent to us. We, in turn, invite all candidates on the list who are not already members of Kappa Delta Pi.
