Reg Weaver presents keynote speech at SEA conference

Illinois State University College of Education Alum Reg Weaver, president of the National Education Association, recently returned to give the keynote speech at the fall conference of the state's Student Education Association. More than 25 ISU teacher education candidates and their advisor, Dean Dianne Ashby, participated in the conference and spent time with Mr. Weaver.

Reg Weaver, an outspoken advocate for public education and one of the country's foremost African American labor leaders, was elected president of the 2.7 million-member National Education Association at NEA's 2002 Representative Assembly in Dallas, Texas. He took office as head of the nation's largest professional employee organization on September 1, 2002.

Mr. Weaver earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education for the Physically Challenged in the College of Education at Illinois State University.
