Illinois Geographic Alliance releases fall newsletter

(November 9, 2006) The Illinois Geographic Alliance (IGA), founded in 1987, promotes geography education in Illinois PK-12 schools by providing a network for teachers throughout Illinois. IGA also provides pre-service and service teacher education programs, develops curriculum materials based on the National Geography Standards, and fosters public awareness by hosting the Geography Bee State Finals. Funded through the National Geographic Society Education Foundation, the Illinois Geographical Society, and the Geographical Society of Chicago, the organization is housed in the College of Education’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction and led by IGA Coordinator and Associate Dean Darrell Kruger.

The fall issue of the Alliance Reporter, the IGA newsletter, is now available to read online. This issue showcases the July 2006 IGA Group Projects Abroad Fulbright experience to South Africa, recaps the IGA fall conference, and provides a lesson plan and other resources for teachers.
