Education doctoral students study abroad in England

(July 3, 2007) In nearly 25 years, hundreds of undergraduate students have participated in Illinois State's Study Abroad partnerships with the University of Brighton and Lancaster University in England. In the first year of this program's expansion to offering graduate study opportunities for students in all three education departments, 14 doctoral have enrolled in the program.

Ben Wellenreiter, Illinois State doctoral student and 8th grade American history teacher in Morton, Illinois, has chronicled his experiences in Lancaster on his blog. Wellenreiter explains: "The purpose of this trip is to investigate how the British school system works and how it compares to an aspect of the American school system. Each of the 14 doctoral students has chosen a topic of interest and is meeting with individual educators and students to help answer their questions. Topics include special education services, standardized test uses, technology integration, teacher training, and in my case, patriotism and citizenship education." Read Wellenreiter's blog.
