(November 26, 2007) This message is drafted in the midst of a lively year of celebration uplifting the 150th Anniversary of Illinois State University, Illinois' first public higher education institution. The spotlight this year has been focused on what an outstanding role this impressive institution has played in the education of countless teachers and school leaders who have capably taught the children of this great state and nation. It started with education at Illinois State and the vital work that continues today is informed by the noteworthy research of our knowledgeable faculty.
We are confident that you will be enlightened by the accounts of these interesting research studies such as work that examines the use of interdisciplinary materials with elementary social studies students that focuses instruction on the human side of World War II. Another report explores communication repairs for two students with autism spectrum disorder. State higher education tax appropriations data for fiscal year 2007 are the focal point of the scholarly investigation of another of our outstanding Illinois State researchers. Finally, the reader will find an informative piece that describes a comparative international study of pre-service science teachers.
The start of a new school year also provides us with the opportunity to introduce and welcome the fine professionals who have chosen to join our faculty.
