16 College of Education majors named Presidential Scholars

(November 13, 2008) Sixteen College of Education students have been named Presidential Scholars for the 2008-09 school year.

The Presidential Scholarship is the most prestigious scholarship program available to incoming freshmen at Illinois State University. Once awarded the scholarship, students are required to maintain a minimum 3.30 grade point average.  Students can keep the annual award for up to eight semesters.

The selection process includes reviewing students’ high school academic records, college admissions test scores, evidence of commitment to service, demonstrated leadership qualities, and a personal interview.

Students who are involved in the Presidential Scholarship Program are exposed to a premiere educational experience while developing leadership skills. Participants are required to study abroad and study a foreign language. The program also has a public service component, which enables students to earn academic credit for community service, bringing them into contact with local professionals, depending on student interest and career goals.
