Office of the Dean Scholarships

The Office of the Dean has a number of need-based and non-need-based scholarships available. Availability and size may change due to fluctuations in endowments. Learn about the scholarships available during 2009–2010 academic year.

Eligibility guidelines

To be considered for a scholarship through the Office of the Dean, the following guidelines must be met:

  • Submit a completed application, which includes:
    • An essay for each scholarship to which you apply. Essays will be collected through the online application. Essay topics are located under each scholarship description.
    • A one-page listing of work and volunteer activities since high school graduation. This will be collected through the online application.
    • A verification form completed by the Student Education Association (if you apply for the John T. Goeldi Future Teacher Scholarship) delivered to Jan Carlton, Dean's Office, DeGarmo 506.
  • Must major in an education program at Illinois State.
  • If the scholarship requires you to be in a certain grade level (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior), please use the grade level you will be at the end of the spring semester.
  • Students who have transferred to Illinois State University from another institution are welcome to apply upon the condition that they have completed a minimum of 12 hours in an education program at Illinois State. The following scholarships do not require students to have completed 12 semester hours at ISU, so new transfer students may apply: Katherine McGorray Scholarship, Sarah Hazel Buck Scholarship, Class of 1929 Scholarship, and Dona Lewis Scholarship.
  • If you apply for a need-based scholarship, your financial record in the ISU Financial Aid Office will be checked. To be eligible for consideration for financial aid at Illinois State University, you must have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the current year.
  • Recipients of the Presidential Scholarship, Bone Scholarship, Dean's Scholarship or a scholarship award from a department of the College of Education during the year in which the student has applied are not eligible. Multiple scholarships will not be awarded to an individual.
  • Individuals who are children of a faculty or staff member of Illinois State University (and who are eligible for a half-price tuition scholarship) are not eligible.
