We are both seniors at Illinois State University majoring in Elementary Education. We hope that our web page will give you a better understanding of mammals and their characteristcs. Feel free to enjoy the many activities that we have planned especially for you!
SO... What exactly is a mammal?
The babies are born alive.
The babies drink milk from their
mother's body.
They have hair or fur on their
bodies.
They are warm-blooded animals.
If it is cold or if it is hot
outside, a mammal stays the same temperature inside.
Mammals breathe with lungs.

SO. . .Where
in the world do mammals live?
Some mammals, like the polar bear,
live in icy cold places.
Some mammals, like the cheetah
and the gorilla, live in hot, damp jungles and rain forests.
Some mammals, like the camel,
live in the hot and sandy desert.
Some mammals, like the whale and
the dolphin, live in water.
SO. . .How do mammals protect themselves?
Some mammals, like the skunk,
use a bad smell to keep the mean animals away.
Some mammals, like the opossum,
pretend they are dead by laying on their back.
Some mammals, like the hedgehog,
roll up into a little ball with all of its spines sticking out.
