   We are both seniors at Illinois State University majoring in Elementary Education.  We hope that our web page will give you a better understanding of mammals and their characteristcs.  Feel free to enjoy the many activities that we have planned especially for you!

 

SO... What exactly is a mammal?

roundSWIRL.gif (1161 bytes)     If it is cold or if it is hot outside, a mammal stays the same temperature inside.

roundSWIRL.gif (1161 bytes)  Some mammals, like the cheetah and the gorilla, live in hot, damp jungles and rain forests.

roundSWIRL.gif (1161 bytes)   Some mammals, like the whale and the dolphin, live in water.

 

SO. . .How do mammals protect themselves?

roundSWIRL.gif (1161 bytes)  Some mammals, like the opossum, pretend they are dead by laying on their back.

roundSWIRL.gif (1161 bytes)   Some mammals, like the hedgehog, roll up into a little ball with all of its spines sticking out.
