Illinois State University was the first public institution in Illinois, established in 1857. Since that time, we have become the largest producer of teachers and administrators in the state, and always ranked in the top ten nationally.
Illinois State University is indeed the large institutional model of excellence in the teacher education field. Realizing the Democratic Ideal at Illinois State University means preparing teachers and administrators to teach all children in all schools in the state and the nation.
